On the night of March 14, 2001, a year after a terrible incident at Yeondu High School, rumors of Sung-ah’s ghost begin to spread. Haunted by guilt, loss, and unanswered questions, several individuals feel drawn back to the school. One is Jung Soo-jin, who believes that her reputation and relationships are tainted by suspicions about the past. Another is Kang Seo-yeon, a former trainee teacher, who seeks to understand her father’s death and the supernatural forces tied to it. A third is Yoo Ji-min, a first year student who promises to help bring peace to a restless spirit. As the three return, each must navigate corridors heavy with spectral presence, evade terrifying pursuers, unlock hidden truths, and face the tangled web of secrets, lies, and memories that refuse to rest in silence.
White Day 2: The Flower That Tells Lies is developed by ROOTNSTUDIO with support from Sonnori and published by PQube. The game first appeared in early 2023 for PC in three episodic parts. Later a “Complete Edition” bundled all episodes and extras and was released on PC and then on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series later in 2024. It blends horror, mystery, and adventure, and is built using Unreal Engine. The game offers multiple character perspectives and branching storylines, as well as multiple endings depending on your choices and the paths you explore.
Gameplay
The player experiences the story through the eyes of different characters returning to Yeondu High. Each episode focuses on one character’s motives, fears, and past. Exploration is key, searching classrooms, halls, and other parts of the school for clues, documents, keys, and items that reveal the hidden history. Danger comes in the form of ghosts, possessed nightguards, and other supernatural predators that cannot always be fought head on. Stealth, hiding, and evading is vital. A camera flash is one tool to temporarily stun pursuers. Puzzle solving is woven in many sections require deciphering riddles, finding hidden keys, manipulating environmental items, and making choices that alter later events. The game has multiple difficulty levels and multiple possible endings in all about fourteen outcomes depending on which episodes you play and what choices you make.
Visuals & Style
Visually the game leans toward moody atmospheres, dim lighting, shadowy corridors, and haunted environments. Yeondu High is both familiar to fans of the original game and twisted by the supernatural: darkened classrooms, flickering lights, unsettling echoes, and sudden ghostly manifestations. Character models are more modern, with efforts toward realistic animation, but environments often underscore mood more than polish. Sound design plays a strong role in tension: ghostly whispers, creaks in floorboards, distant screams, the wind, all blend to create unease. The style mixes traditional school horror with elements of the occult, ritual, and nightmare.
Importance in Survival Horror History
Although White Day 2 is often described as horror adventure or mystery horror, it carries strong survival horror DNA. It emphasizes vulnerability—players are often defenseless, must hide or escape rather than confront.
