In DreadOut Remastered Collection players follow the story of Linda, a high school student caught in a supernatural nightmare. While on a field trip with classmates she and others become lost and separated. She ends up in an abandoned town haunted by vengeful spirits. Armed only with her smartphone and camera she must survive ghostly encounters and unravel the mysteries behind the hauntings in order to escape.
DreadOut Remastered Collection is a third person supernatural horror collection developed by Digital Happiness and published by Digital Happiness with support from Soft Source. It was released in May 2025. This collection brings together the original DreadOut and its standalone expansion Keepers of the Dark in a single remastered package. The games have been upgraded with improved visuals, refined controls, better performance, and unified interface enhancements to introduce these cult classics to a modern audience.

Gameplay
Players move through haunted environments, interacting with objects, exploring rooms, and uncovering clues. The core combat mechanic uses the camera: encountering ghosts triggers a “hit word” system where Linda must snap photos when the screen distorts, using the right timing to repel spirits. Inventory is limited and ammunition is scarce, encouraging caution and planning. Keepers of the Dark, included in the collection, offers a more combat oriented variant with boss encounters across different zones. Throughout both games exploration and puzzle solving remain central to progression.
Visuals and Style
The remastered collection enhances the original art with better lighting, refined textures, smoother animations, and post-processing effects such as bloom and ambient occlusion. Cutscenes are upscaled in resolution. The environments maintain their eerie atmosphere of abandoned schools, ghostly towns, and misty landscapes, now polished for clarity while preserving the haunting mood. Visual glitches and low resolution art of the originals are updated, making ghostly distortions and camera effects more fluid while the overall tone remains chilling and surreal.
Importance in Survival Horror History
This collection reinforces how camera based combat can define supernatural horror. DreadOut was heavily inspired by Fatal Frame and showed how that formula could be adapted through Indonesian folklore, bringing regional ghost stories to the genre. By bundling and refreshing both the main game and its expansion, the remastered collection helps preserve cultural horror legacy while making it accessible to new fans. It highlights how indie studios can both pay homage and innovate within classic horror frameworks.
Reception and Historical Value
Players and critics have given mixed responses. Praise often centers on the atmospheric remastering, the return of ghost hunting mechanics, and the inclusion of both games in one package. Some criticisms point out that certain original level designs and pacing issues remain, and that the remaster does not fully overhaul every technical flaw. Nonetheless, the collection has renewed interest in DreadOut’s universe and is regarded by horror fans as a valuable reintroduction of the series. Historically, it may be cited as an example of how remasters can revive cult horror titles for a new era without losing their original spirit.
Availability and Collectibility

DreadOut Remastered Collection is available digitally on PC and consoles. Physical editions may be released for platforms such as PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. Because it includes both core entries with upgraded presentation and retains loyal fanbase appeal, any limited boxed edition is likely to become collectible. For fans of supernatural horror remakes and camera-combat games this collection offers both nostalgia and renewed relevance.
