In the aftermath of a catastrophic asteroid collision, humanity faces near extinction. Survivors either fled to space or sought refuge underground. Upon returning to the Earth’s surface, they encounter a new life form born from the ashes—mutated beings known as Geisters. Players assume the role of Sergeant Sole, a former member of the Solar Allied Forces, who embarks on a mission to investigate these anomalies.

Developed by Quasar and published by HiCom, Geisters is a third-person survival horror game set in a dystopian future. The narrative unfolds aboard a space station named Orbit, where a rebellion has occurred. Sole, demoted for his refusal to harm civilians during the uprising, is sent back to Earth on an exploration mission called Project Aeon. The game delves into themes of survival, morality, and the consequences of human actions
Gameplay
Geisters employs a third-person perspective with cinematic camera angles, reminiscent of early survival horror titles. Players navigate through 3D environments, solving puzzles and combating fast-moving mutant enemies. The game emphasizes exploration and resource management, with limited ammunition and health items adding to the tension.
Visuals & Style
The game features pre-rendered backgrounds with 3D character models, a common design choice in late 90s survival horror games. The environments are dark and atmospheric, with a focus on creating a sense of isolation and dread. The art direction draws inspiration from both Western and Eastern sci-fi aesthetics, blending elements to craft a unique visual experience.
Importance in Survival Horror History
Geisters stands out as one of the few survival horror games developed in South Korea during the late 90s. Its unique setting and narrative approach contribute to the diversification of the genre. While not widely recognized internationally, it offers a glimpse into the global evolution of survival horror during that era.
